Hecla Historic Village

Hecla Historic Village

Guided Village Tours:While you may visit the Hecla Village anytime and walk the self-guiding trail, guided tours of the Village are offered multiple times each week in the summer season. The Park Interpreter will connect you with the Icelandic heritage of the village, tell legends of the past and let you inside the historic buildings not normally seen on your own. Check the Hecla Events Calendar for guided village tour dates.

Hecla School Interpretive Centre: In the heart of the Hecla Village, the two-room schoolhouse serves as the interpretive centre for Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park, featuring displays and exhibits on the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the park. Chat with a Park Interpreter, share your stories and experiences and get answers to any park questions you have. Be sure to stop in next door at the Heritage Home, depicting the lifestyle of an Icelandic family in the 1920's - 1940's.

Visitor Centre Hours:

The Hecla School is now closed for the winter.  We’ll reopen in May 2025.
