Whiteshell Natural History Museum
Opened in 1960, the log constructed museum has been a favourite stop for many park visitors. Its displays are a blend of the old and the new. Animal mounts reflecting the varieties of wildlife at home in the park were donated by local cottagers and residents. Newer displays focus on the boreal forest, Aboriginal peoples, Petroforms, sturgeon and the Winnipeg River.
Park Interpreters will greet you and answer all your questions about the natural and cultural history of the Whiteshell. Ask the interpreters about upcoming programs, or ask about our family fun activities!
Located on PR 307 at Nutimik Lake. Admission is always free!
The Whiteshell Natural History Museum will remain closed for 2018.
The original museum structure has reached the end of its lifespan and is no longer structurally sound. Environment and Climate Change is currently working on a redevelopment plan. The classroom side of the Museum will still be open for inquiries, dependent upon availability of Park Interpreters.
Regular interpretive programming will continue throughout the park, including at the Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary, Whiteshell Fish Hatchery and Bannock Point Petroforms. For program details, visit the Manitoba Parks Facebook page and look under the events tab, or email ParkInterpretation@gov.mb.ca.
